This could be the start of something BIG :)

Quilters know how to celebrate. That's how I came up with the idea for Party with Patrick. They also know how to bring their creativity as well as their creations into the events and holidays they celebrate throughout the year.

I'm in the midst of a very exciting project that you'll be hearing more about soon. Believe it or not, quilters like you have been involved in it from its inception because I've been slowly creating it based on what I know about quilters' love of life and love for celebrating the events of life - big and small alike. But I'd like to have your input, even more, as I continue to develop this project.

So, how about another contest?

Tell us how you incorporate quilting and creativity into your celebrations of holidays and life events throughout the year and you'll be entered in a drawing to win a 12 pack of fat quarters from my Marble Mania collection for Timeless Treasures.

Let us know the big and small ways you use your creative energy to spice up a holiday party or welcome a baby or create an heirloom for a couple of newlyweds. Maybe you've quilted a birthday or graduation gift or a runner for the Thanksgiving table? I want to hear about it and share your ideas with other quilters who love celebrating life as much as you do!

Comment on this post by 5 p.m. Monday for your chance to win. And be sure to check back to see what others have to say. If your idea is something really special, you may be contacted to be a part of my project, if you'd like. The name of the winner will be drawn on Tuesday.

You can also post your comment on the Party with Patrick fan page here.

Let's hear what you have to say.

Cheers!

  1. since my sisters got the ability to cook and not sew and i got the ability to sew and not cook; i present them with a fancyschmancy tablerunner, apron or coasters and feel great reward when they ooh and ahh over my handiwork.

  2. My daughter-in-law teaches kindergarten and first grade so I have been making monthly and holiday wall hangings for her schoolroom door. The kids love them and the other teachers are envious. I am anxious to get the Upwardly Mobile pattern/kit and get started on that one for her. Love your stuff. Thanks.

  3. I'm currently in the process of creating an art quilt for my niece's wedding. It will be the decoration on the head table where the bride and groom will be setting (They can later use it as a wallhanging in their new home). My wife is making coordinating runners out of one of the purple Kaufman Scribbles fabric to go on all of the guest tables for the reception. As an added surprise for the mothers and sisters of the bride and groom I will be making smaller art quilts to go on the four family tables at the front of the reception hall. The theme for all five quilts will be "Live, Laugh, Love."

  4. Hi Patrick! I always make a quilt for the nieces and nephews that are graduating from HS. Just 3 left! ;-) I use my quilts throughout the year as decorations. Christmas, and I have 3 or 4 different wall hanging and I finally have a quilted tree shirt. Only took 20 years to got it made! When new babies arrive for families or friends, they most always receive a quilt made just for them. Quilting is such a big part of my life I think I would curl up and die if you took the fabric away! Jami C in IA

I have begun a wonderful collection of photos of each of these quilts, and it is truly wonderful and unique how each quilt looks in so many different color ways!!!

  6. We have two god-daughters and for their 16th birthday, I made them each a lap quilt. One has gone off to university now and she got a heavy duty bag made rom 6 fat quarters, filled with things for her to use away from home. The bag is strong enough that she can carry her laptop in it.

  8. Hello! I am a sentimental kind of person. I love to give gifts that take a lot of thought. A gift I gave my great niece (on my husband's side) was, of course, a quilt when she was born. For her 1st birthday, I took the left over fabric and made a pillow. The pillow is the special part of the gift. We have a quilt that was my husband's grandmothers (which would then be my great niece's great great grandmother). Unfortunately, it was beyond repair, so I took the parts that were still nicely intact and saved those pieces for a special occasion. The front of the pillow for my great niece is a butterfly from the quilt done by her great great grandmother and, of course, the remaining fabric for the pillow is that of the quilt given to her by me.

The next gift I recently did was another baby quilt for my cousin's baby. My uncle (her grandfather) passed away a couple years ago. When I found out my cousin was having a baby, I asked my aunt for an old shirt of my uncle's. I took a small square from the shirt and incorporated it into the quilt label (since obviously it wouldn't match the baby fabric..lol) Since they are all very close, I thought this would be a very meaningful gift because seeing the fabric from the shirt will hopefully bring about discussion on some pretty happy memories. Thanks for doing another contest!

  9. This past year I made lapquilts for my daughter's wedding party. Each girl recieved a lapquilt of a different design based on information my daughter provided for me. All seven young ladies seemed very thrilled to receive the lapquilt.

  10. I love welcoming new babies to the family and when I was expecting my first, I found some Marimekko fabric and made a small quilt. The next child was coming all the way from Korea, a baby girl, and I quilted a white eyelet crib set for her. For the last one it was a dinosaur print. They each still have theirs and have mentioned them lately. Now it is time to share my fun and happy Party with Patrick projects with the same children as they set up their own homes.

  11. Such great ideas and really inspiring stories. These are the kinds of things I try to keep in mind when I'm designing and your reactions to my work and comments here and on the Party with Patrick Facebook fan page drive me to create more. I hope I do the same in return :)

    Keep the comments coming!

  13. This past year I made quilted Christmas stockings for our nieces and their new husbands since they were moving into their new homes for the first time. I also took the opportunity to make a new set of stockings for our family, including all the four-legged members. All the stockings this year were made from various Patric Lose Fabrics from Robert Kaufman.
